Overview
Fatigue rulesets govern the allowable working hours, required rest periods, and mandated breaks for heavy vehicle drivers across Australia. These rules are regulated by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) and must be followed to ensure safety and compliance.
Western Australia does not operate under the NHVR, and so WA drivers can select the WA rule set from their Bustle Mobile App.
Bustle supports driver fatigue management in alignment with NHVR requirements, allowing organisations to assign rulesets appropriate to each driver's role and accreditation. This article outlines how to change a driver's ruleset within the Bustle Fatigue platform.
What Is a Fatigue Ruleset?
A fatigue ruleset is a compliance framework that sets limits on:
Driving hours per day/week
Mandatory rest breaks and recovery time
Cumulative work and rest cycles
Bustle supports the following ruleset types:
Standard
Standard Bus
Basic Fatigue Management (BFM)
Advanced Fatigue Management (AFM)
Western Australia (WA)
Exemption-based
⚠️ Important Preconditions
Before changing a driver’s fatigue ruleset:
✅ The driver must be in a “Rest” status
You cannot change a ruleset if the driver is currently on a Work or Break status.
Steps to Change a Driver’s Ruleset
Follow these steps from within the Bustle Fatigue interface:
Open the Fatigue Module
From the main menu, select Fatigue.
Click “Change Driver Details”
Locate the driver whose ruleset needs to be updated.
Select “Work/Rest Options”
This opens the settings tied to how Bustle tracks and validates shifts.
Choose the New Ruleset
From the “Rule Set” dropdown, select one of the following:
Standard
Standard Bus
Basic Fatigue Management
Advanced Fatigue Management
WA
Exemption
Save Changes
Confirm and apply the changes by clicking the Green button.
✅ Additional Tips
Compliance Impact: Changing a ruleset does not retroactively apply to past driving activity — only future logs are affected.
